Sweet and Savory Fish Head Soup

It’s a common practice in Pakistani’s to buy fish and get rid of its head and guts. Of course, you can not utilize the guts but wasting fish heads is like blasphemy. Have you ever tasted fish soup or fish curry in a restaurant? If yes, then you should know that it’s scrumptious taste comes from fish head broth.

Yes, it’s true. Fish head broth is what makes fish curries and soups so delectable. A soup without head broth cannot offer the depth of flavor you expect from a fish dish. 

In this Sweet and Savory Fish Soup we’ll use fish head broth with some spices, sauces, and sweet and savory ingredients to cook healthy and flavorsome soup for you and your family.

You can pair the soup with Boneless Fish Sandwich or Surmai Fish Kebab and enjoy a fishful meal with your family and friends.

 

Sweet and Savory Fish Head Soup Recipe

Ingredients
  • Fish head 2 to 3 pieces
  • Corn ½ cups boiled
  • Peas ½ cups raw
  • Pineapple ½ cup
  • Egg 1 medium
  • Lime juice 2 tbsp
  • Ginger 1 inch piece
  • Cumin whole ½ tbsp
  • Soy sauce 2 tbsp
  • Brown sugar ½ tbsp
  • Apple cider 1 tbsp
  • Salt 1 tbsp
  • Pepper1 tbsp
  • Water 3 glasses or as required
Directions
Step 1
1: In a saucepan, take some olive oil and add ginger and cumin.
Step 2
2: Saute them on medium-low flame for 5 to 8 minutes.
Step 3
3: Now fry the fish heads in the pan for 10 to 15 minutes.
Step 4
4: Sprinkle salt and pepper.
Step 5
5: Stir well to coat the fish pieces with masala.
Step 6
6: Now add water as required and let it boil to form a broth.
Step 7
7: Meanwhile roast dry pineapple in a pan on medium flame.
Step 8
8: In a separate bowl, prepare a mixture of brown sugar, soy sauce, apple cider, and lime juice.
Step 9
9: Once the broth is ready, remove the fish head and add peas, corn, and roasted pineapple in the soup.
Step 10
10: Add the brown sugar mixture into the soup.
Step 11
11: Separate fish pulp from the bones and add it to the soup.
Step 12
12: Sprinkle black pepper and add soy sauce in the soup.
Step 13
13: Pour one beaten egg in the soup and let it boil for 5 minutes.

Serve hot!
